Cachora-La Colmena, 22dec09

In Cachora (2900m) i went to a tienda (small shops at home) and bought some coca leaves, apples and bananas. The apples are long-shaped and tasteful. After that i met arriero (people that have mula – like a smaller horse but more resistant – and rent them to travellers) Pedro at the Tourism Office where i could get some interesting informations about the trail.

From there Pedro and i started walking till his house in La Colmena already in Choquequirao trail. With peruvian people working with tourism we have to deal all time and with Pedro it was not different. On the way to his house we stared dealing about the mula price. I would like to go without mula and arriero but the backpack was really heavy (around 18kg) and i start realizing that the trail will be quite difficult. Pedro offered me a delicious lunch of potatoes and cheese and i brought galettas, apple and banana.

We tried to put the backpack on the mula but it was difficult because we didn´t had enough cord. Finally i gave up and decided keep in my original project going alone and carrying all my stuff by my own.

So, i´ve started in La Colmena at around 2 pm going up and down in my way to Choquequirao.
